Jeffrey Donaldson Sex Abuse Trial

The trial of former Democratic Unionist Party leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson has commenced at Newry Crown Court, where he faces 18 charges including rape and gross indecency.

Jurors were played a police interview with an alleged victim who described being abused as a child and 'feeling dirty for a long time.' The court also heard details of a 2020 letter written by Donaldson to the complainant in which he asked for forgiveness for the 'hurt and pain' he caused.

Donaldson, who has pleaded not guilty to all counts, remains on trial alongside his wife, Eleanor, who is charged with aiding and abetting.
