UK Swelters as Heatwave Tests Grid

The United Kingdom is in the grip of its third major heatwave this summer, with temperatures in some areas rivaling the record-breaking summer of 1976.

Whistleblowers claimed that on June 23, the electricity grid came perilously close to failing as demand surged and temperatures hit 34°C, forcing operators to scramble to maintain supply.

The Met Office has maintained yellow heat health warnings across seven regions, and the NHS is reporting a sharp increase in heat-related admissions.

A weekend cooldown is expected to bring some relief, but the longer-term strain on infrastructure and public health has intensified calls for climate adaptation measures.
