US soldier charged with insider trading
Federal prosecutors in New York have indicted Master Sergeant Gannon Ken Van Dyke, a member of the elite unit involved in the operation to capture Nicolás Maduro.
The soldier allegedly exploited his access to sensitive mission timelines to place thirteen lucrative bets on the prediction platform Polymarket.
This case represents the first federal prosecution for insider trading within the burgeoning industry of online prediction markets.
Van Dyke faces multiple criminal counts, including wire fraud and unlawful monetary transactions, which could carry a maximum sentence of sixty years in prison.
