DOJ moves to erase Jan 6 convictions

In a major reversal of Biden-era legal victories, the Trump administration's DOJ is seeking to permanently dismiss indictments against Stewart Rhodes and other leaders of far-right groups involved in the January 6 Capitol attack.

Prosecutors argued that defending the convictions would require the current administration to assert that these groups were acting against the interests of the President.

The filing aims to erase the most serious charges, including seditious conspiracy, for a dozen individuals whose sentences were already commuted or pardoned.

Legal experts suggest this move effectively closes the book on the federal government's pursuit of those who led the 2021 riot.
