Uruguay's Silva wins Giro stage 2

Guillermo Thomas Silva has made cycling history as the first Uruguayan to win a stage at a Grand Tour.

Silva claimed a sensational victory in the second stage of the Giro d'Italia, navigating a chaotic sprint finish on rain-slicked roads.

The win also earns him the iconic maglia rosa, the overall leader's pink jersey.

However, the stage was marred by a horrific crash that forced several riders, including Australian Jay Vine, to abandon the race and seek hospital treatment.
