Fragile Iran ceasefire under pressure

Less than 24 hours after President Trump announced a ceasefire to halt the conflict with Iran, the deal is already fraying due to intense Israeli military operations against Hezbollah.

While the White House insists Lebanon is a separate theater, Iranian officials claim the strikes violate the spirit of the truce and have halted tanker traffic in the Persian Gulf.

Negotiators from both sides are scheduled to meet in Islamabad this weekend to discuss a permanent resolution.

However, the continued exchange of fire and disagreements over maritime access suggest a difficult path toward lasting peace.
