Aung San Suu Kyi pardoned
The pardon order, issued by junta leader-turned-civilian president Min Aung Hlaing, covered more than 4,500 prisoners across the country.
While Suu Kyi's sentence was cut by four and a half years, her allies maintain that the charges against her were politically motivated to prevent her from returning to power.
The move is seen by analysts as a potential gesture toward domestic reconciliation amidst a weakened separatist insurgency.
Relatives gathered outside Insein Prison to welcome those released, though many high-profile political figures remain behind bars.
