US soldier charged with insider trading

Federal prosecutors in New York have charged Gannon Ken Van Dyke with wire fraud and misuse of confidential government information.

The soldier allegedly used his access to secret details of the January raid in Venezuela to place lucrative wagers on the platform Polymarket.

The case has highlighted growing concerns about insider trading within the rapidly expanding prediction market industry.

If convicted on all counts, Van Dyke faces a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison.
