EU court rules against Hungary

In a landmark judgment, Europe’s highest court ruled that Hungary has breached EU law on multiple levels by prohibiting the 'promotion of homosexuality' among young people.

The court stated that the measures infringed upon the core values of human dignity and equality upon which the union is founded.

The decision poses an immediate challenge for incoming Prime Minister Péter Magyar, whose party ended Viktor Orbán’s sixteen-year rule earlier this month.

Human rights advocates have hailed the ruling as a historic victory for the LGBTQ community across Europe.
