Pakistan mediates U.S.-Iran talks

Pakistan's army chief and interior minister are leading a critical diplomatic mission to Iran to convey a new framework for talks from the United States.

Mediators are hopeful for a breakthrough regarding Iran's nuclear program and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which has been under a U.S. naval blockade since Monday.

While the White House has denied formally requesting a ceasefire extension, officials expressed cautious optimism that a second round of in-person negotiations could occur in Islamabad.

The outcome of these discussions is seen as vital to preventing a return to large-scale hostilities that have already destabilized global energy markets.
