Trump's asylum ban blocked

A federal appeals court has blocked President Trump's executive order suspending asylum access at the U.S.-Mexico border.

The three-judge panel ruled that the president cannot unilaterally bypass laws enacted by Congress that allow individuals to apply for asylum upon arrival.

The decision is a major legal setback for the administration's hardline immigration agenda.

Justice Department lawyers have indicated they will appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court, arguing that the president has broad authority to manage national security at the border.
