FDA Panel Backs Moderna mRNA Flu Shot

FDA Panel Backs Moderna mRNA Flu Shot

The FDA's independent vaccine advisors voted 9-0 that the benefits of Moderna's mFlusiva mRNA influenza vaccine outweigh its risks for adults 50 and older.

The unanimous endorsement moves the novel shot a step closer to becoming the first mRNA flu vaccine approved for public use.

The recommendation signals growing confidence in the mRNA platform that was proven during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Moderna hopes the vaccine will improve on traditionally modest flu shot efficacy and eventually be adapted rapidly to emerging strains.
