South Africa Braces for Anti-Immigrant Marches

South Africa is bracing for nationwide anti-immigrant marches on June 30, with thousands of foreign nationals already fleeing weeks of xenophobic violence.

The movement, led by a former radio presenter, has set a deadline for undocumented migrants to leave the country, while more than 2,000 Zimbabweans are sheltering at a Cape Town processing centre.

Security forces have deployed massively across all nine provinces, with the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster activating a national operational plan.

Meanwhile, community groups, churches and traditional leaders are mobilising to protect foreign nationals and defuse the brewing crisis.
