NPR receives $113 million in gifts

The gift from Ballmer, the wife of former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, is the largest ever from a living donor to the public radio network.

NPR stated that the funds will be used to support its long-term digital strategy and offset the significant budget shortfall caused by the Trump administration's funding cuts.

An anonymous donor also contributed $33 million to the total, highlighting a surge in private support for public media.

The network aims to use the investment to expand its local news coverage and reach younger audiences through new platforms.
