Mexico and US Open Trade Talks

Mexico and the United States have officially launched the first of three scheduled negotiating rounds to revamp the North American trade agreement (CUSMA).

The talks, taking place in Mexico City, focus on addressing U.S. concerns over trade deficits and supply chain security.

Notably, the current round does not include Canadian representatives, signaling a potential shift in the trilateral dynamic.

U.S. trade officials have warned that existing tariffs on Mexican and Canadian imports will remain in place as Washington seeks significant concessions ahead of the 2026 treaty review deadline.
