Sony Interactive Entertainment has issued a formal clarification regarding a new digital rights management (DRM) system on its consoles.

The company denied reports that users would be required to go online every 30 days to validate their game licenses, stating that the check is a one-time requirement following a purchase.

The confusion arose after recent system updates appeared to introduce a timer on digital titles, leading to fears of a permanent online-only requirement.

While the statement has calmed some concerns, Sony has not yet addressed broader questions regarding the long-term accessibility of digital libraries if its servers were to go offline.
