Hungary's Parliament Ousts President

Hungarian lawmakers voted to remove President Tamás Sulyok, a loyalist of former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, through a constitutional amendment.

Prime Minister Péter Magyar called Sulyok a 'puppet' of the illiberal former regime and said the move was a key step to replace Orbán's political allies.

The extraordinary vote was criticized by human rights groups and allies of Orbán, who lost power in April after 16 years.

The 17th amendment to the constitution was approved by the National Assembly, formalizing Sulyok's removal.
