EU Unlocks Hungary Funds

The European Union has agreed to unlock more than €16 billion in frozen funds for Hungary following structural and anti-corruption reforms by the new government.

EU chief Ursula von der Leyen praised the progress under Prime Minister Peter Magyar, marking a significant shift from the era of former leader Viktor Orban.

The funds had been withheld for years due to concerns over democratic backsliding and the rule of law.

While the agreement represents a major economic win for Budapest, officials cautioned that the cash will be wired only as specific reform milestones are verified.
