Senate GOP advances ICE funding plan

In a marathon late-night session, Senate Republicans successfully pushed through a budget resolution designed to bankroll ICE and Border Patrol through the end of the Trump presidency.

The move effectively cuts Democrats out of the funding process for the most controversial elements of the Department of Homeland Security, which has been partially shut down for two months.

Democrats have warned that this partisan strategy will 'come back to bite' the GOP, while Republicans argue the funding is essential for national security.

The resolution now moves to the House, where it faces further political hurdles amid a nationwide fight over border policy.
