Norway to ban social media for kids

The Norwegian government has announced plans to introduce a strict ban on social media for children under the age of 16.

The measure aims to protect minors from online harms and data exploitation, following similar legislative moves in Australia and Turkey.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre stated that the ban is necessary to combat the negative impact of algorithms on youth mental health.

Tech companies have expressed concern over the feasibility of age verification, while parent groups have largely welcomed the initiative.
