Hantavirus case confirmed in Switzerland

Health authorities in Switzerland have confirmed that a man has tested positive for the Andes strain of hantavirus after returning from a trans-Atlantic cruise.

The patient, who is being treated in isolation in Zurich, was a passenger on the MV Hondius, the vessel at the center of a deadly outbreak that has claimed three lives.

This confirmed case has sparked a race to trace his contacts and raised concerns about the potential for human-to-human transmission of the rare virus.

Swiss officials are working closely with the World Health Organization to manage the situation and prevent further spread.
