The incident occurred at 8:05 am on Saturday as the aircraft was being prepared for a flight to Tenerife.
Witnesses described the fall as 'agonising' and stated the worker is 'lucky to be alive'.
Jet2 has confirmed that a full investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the accident.
The North West Ambulance Service deployed two air ambulances to the scene, and the area was cordoned off for several hours following the fall.
