Fuel protests paralyze Ireland

Fuel protests paralyze Ireland

The protests are driven by soaring energy costs linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, creating what ministers describe as a 'very dangerous economic moment.' In response, the Irish Government has deployed units of the Defence Forces to assist police in clearing blockades and restoring access for fuel tankers.

While some tankers have regained access to the Whitegate refinery, tensions remain high as protesters in Northern Ireland signal their solidarity.

The government is currently considering temporary support payments for farmers and hauliers to defuse the crisis.
