Israel-Lebanon Direct Peace Talks

Israel-Lebanon Direct Peace Talks

Envoys from Israel and Lebanon met at the State Department on Tuesday to begin high-level discussions aimed at de-escalating the regional conflict.

While Secretary of State Marco Rubio characterized the meeting as a historic process, he cautioned that immediate breakthroughs are unlikely given the complexity of the border disputes.

Israel remains focused on the total disarmament of Hezbollah, while Lebanese officials are seeking an immediate cessation of Israeli strikes that have displaced over a million people.

Hezbollah has already signaled its opposition to the talks, stating it will not abide by any agreements reached without its direct participation.
