Christine Fréchette named Quebec Premier

In a leadership race decided on Sunday, CAQ members selected former economy minister Christine Fréchette to lead the party into this fall's provincial election.

Fréchette won 57.9% of the vote, defeating Bernard Drainville at the party convention in Drummondville.

She has promised a new style of leadership as the party seeks to regain its standing in the polls against a rising separatist faction.

Outgoing Premier Legault stated that he stepped down to preserve the future of the CAQ and ensure a smooth transition for the next generation of leadership.
