Ebola Outbreak Rapidly Spreading in DR Congo, WHO Says
The World Health Organization and Africa CDC warned that the Ebola outbreak in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo is evolving fast, with at least 30 deaths recorded in the Kigonze displacement camp since May.
Officials fear the outbreak could become the worst in recorded history if transmission rates do not flatten.
The crisis is compounded by community mistrust and attacks on health workers, with tests for the deadly disease only recently implemented in the area.
Africa CDC director Jean Kaseya has called on African nations to invest more domestic funds in response and vaccine development.
