De-extinction firm hatches chicks

Biotech startup Colossal Biosciences claims to have hatched its first chicks from an entirely artificial eggshell.

The breakthrough is being hailed as a major step toward the firm's ultimate goal of resurrecting extinct species like the dodo and the giant moa.

The company used a 3D-printed lattice structure to mimic a natural egg, allowing 26 chicks to develop without supplemental oxygen.

While the firm celebrates this 'conservation milestone,' independent scientists remain skeptical about the feasibility of true de-extinction.
