Greece proposes AI constitutional reforms

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has proposed a series of historic constitutional amendments designed to govern the rise of artificial intelligence.

The reforms would mandate that AI technology must serve human society and protect fundamental individual freedoms, marking a world-first attempt to embed AI ethics into a national constitution.

The package also includes measures to overhaul public administration, enhance political accountability, and expand postal voting.

Mitsotakis emphasized that as the birthplace of democracy, Greece has a unique responsibility to ensure that technological progress remains under democratic oversight and serves the public good.
