Sudan war enters fourth year

International donors have pledged over $1.5 billion in aid at a conference in Berlin, but the Sudanese government has rejected the outcome because it was not consulted.

The conflict has caused a functional collapse of life-sustaining systems, with tens of thousands of casualties and 11 million people forced from their homes.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has pleaded for an immediate end to the flow of arms into the region.

Despite the scale of the suffering, the international community has struggled to persuade the warring factions to reach a lasting peace agreement.
