US and Iran begin historic talks

Vice President JD Vance is leading the American delegation in Islamabad for high-stakes trilateral negotiations with senior Iranian officials and Pakistani mediators.

These discussions represent the most significant diplomatic engagement between the two adversaries in nearly half a century, following a period of intense military conflict.

Key points of contention include control over the Strait of Hormuz, the status of nuclear programmes, and the ongoing hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

While a two-week ceasefire is currently in place, both sides remain far apart on fundamental demands, including the lifting of sanctions and the release of detainees.
