French Soldier Killed in Lebanon Ambush

Staff Sergeant Florian Montorio of the 17th Parachute Engineer Regiment was killed while clearing a road in the village of Ghandouriyeh on Saturday.

The patrol came under small-arms fire in what UNIFIL described as a 'deliberate attack' likely carried out by Iran-backed Hezbollah.

While Hezbollah has denied involvement, the incident has severely tested the newly brokered truce intended to end weeks of intense conflict.

Macron has demanded full accountability from Lebanese authorities as the UN launches a formal investigation into the shooting.
