EU Court Rejects Hungary LGBTQ Law

Europe's highest court has delivered a significant blow to the legislative agenda of outgoing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

The court determined that the 2021 law infringed upon the rights of LGBTQ individuals and was incompatible with the EU treaty's founding principles.

The judgment represents a major victory for the European Commission and the 16 member states that challenged the legislation.

It now falls to the incoming Hungarian government, led by Peter Magyar, to decide whether to repeal the law and align the country's policies with the court's findings.
