Ebola Cases Surge Past 800 in Congo

Confirmed Ebola cases in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have surged past 800, with the Red Cross warning the outbreak may take up to a year to end.

The outbreak involves the rare Bundibugyo strain, for which there is no proven treatment or vaccine, and at least 192 of the cases have been fatal.

Health workers are struggling to track transmission chains across three provinces as treatment centers become overwhelmed.

An American doctor previously infected with Ebola in the DRC has been repatriated to the United States for treatment.
