D-Day Anniversary Commemorations Begin

Commemorations for the 82nd anniversary of the D-Day landings have begun in Normandy, with veterans and French schoolchildren participating.

Tributes are being paid to the nearly 160,000 Allied troops who landed on June 6, 1944.

World leaders and the last remaining veterans gathered in Normandy to mark the occasion, with ceremonies held in Langrune-sur-Mer and Colleville-sur-Mer.

A WWII veteran, Arthur Rose, read a letter from days after D-Day, recounting the historic invasion and emphasizing the enduring legacy of those who fought for freedom.
