Texas detransition clinic mandated

Texas Children’s Hospital has agreed to establish the nation’s first specialized 'detransition clinic' as part of a $10 million settlement with Attorney General Ken Paxton.

The settlement concludes a multi-year investigation into the hospital's gender-affirming healthcare practices for minors, which Paxton had characterized as illegal under state law.

Under the terms of the agreement, the hospital must also terminate several doctors involved in providing such treatments and provide detransition services free of charge for the first five years.

The move is seen as a significant victory for conservative efforts to restrict transgender healthcare and could set a precedent for other states.
