Peru heads to polarized runoff

Peru's National Jury of Elections has finally confirmed the results of the first-round presidential vote, setting the stage for a highly polarized runoff on June 7.

Keiko Fujimori, the conservative daughter of a former president, will face off against leftist Roberto Sánchez, who secured over 2 million votes.

The month-long delay in finalizing the results was caused by numerous challenges to contested ballots, fueling political instability in the Andean nation.

Voters will now choose between Sánchez's platform of radical economic reform and Fujimori's promise of traditional conservative stability and law-and-order policies.
