Péter Magyar ousts Viktor Orbán

Hungarian voters turned out in record numbers to deliver a resounding mandate to Péter Magyar, a former party insider turned opposition leader.

Preliminary results indicate the Tisza Party is on course for a constitutional supermajority, securing approximately 138 seats in the 199-member parliament.

Magyar has pledged to dismantle systemic corruption and repair Budapest's strained ties with Brussels.

The defeat is seen as a significant blow to global far-right movements, as Orbán was a prominent ally of both Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
