Makar signs historic Avalanche extension

Cale Makar and the Colorado Avalanche have agreed to an 8-year, $163.2 million contract extension.

The deal makes Makar the highest-paid player in NHL history.

Makar is one of 14 NHL players ever to have won multiple Norris Trophies as the league's top defenseman.

The extension secures the cornerstone of Colorado's blue line for the foreseeable future.
