Sudanese man charged in migrant deaths

The National Crime Agency confirmed that Ali has been charged with endangering life and facilitating illegal entry into the UK. The victims, two men and two women, drowned during a desperate attempt to cross the busy shipping lane, bringing the total number of Channel deaths this year to six.

Ali appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Saturday as investigators continue to probe the organized smuggling network behind the crossing.

This case represents one of the first major prosecutions under the UK's strengthened border security legislation, which targets those responsible for steering small boats across the Channel.
