UK Heatwave Breaks Record with Sixth 35C Day
The United Kingdom has set a new heat record with six separate days exceeding 35°C in 2026, the Met Office confirmed, as the third major heatwave of the summer intensifies.
Temperatures reached 35.2°C in Coton in the Elms, Derbyshire, on Friday, forcing water companies to consider hosepipe bans and putting pressure on emergency services.
Authorities in Ireland also extended a hot weather advisory as the prolonged spell of very warm conditions continues across the British Isles.
The heat has sparked health warnings for vulnerable groups and heightened wildfire risks, while public venues brace for further strain on water networks.
