Israel and Lebanon agree ceasefire

Israel and Lebanon agree ceasefire

The ten-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon went into effect on Thursday evening, marking a temporary halt to six weeks of devastating conflict.

U.S. President Donald Trump claimed credit for the diplomatic breakthrough, suggesting it could pave the way for a permanent peace deal between Washington and Tehran.

While the truce was welcomed by Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that Israeli forces would remain in a reinforced security zone within southern Lebanon.

Despite the announcement, the Lebanese army reported early violations of the agreement as both sides remain wary of the fragile diplomatic opening.
