Missouri Floods Kill One, Rescue 200 Campers
Record rainfall of up to 12 inches triggered catastrophic flash flooding across southeastern Missouri, submerging entire communities and claiming at least one life.
Emergency crews rescued over 350 people, including 200 children stranded at a summer camp when all roads were cut off; eight Black Hawk helicopters were deployed to airlift them to safety.
A state of emergency was declared as officials warned that more heavy rain could worsen the situation.
The flooding has been described as a historic event for the region.
