BC Sues OpenAI Over Tumbler Ridge Shooting

The British Columbia government announced it is pursuing legal action against OpenAI, alleging the company failed to notify law enforcement before the Tumbler Ridge mass shooting.

The shooter had used ChatGPT prior to the murders, and the province has retained legal counsel in both British Columbia and California.

Attorney General Niki Sharma said the action targets OpenAIโ€™s failure to prevent harm.

The case is one of several lawsuits linking generative AI to real-world violence.
