Europe faces imminent fuel shortage

Executive Director Fatih Birol of the IEA stated that the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz has triggered the largest energy crisis in history.

European airlines are particularly vulnerable as the continent is the primary buyer of fuel typically shipped through the strategic waterway.

Officials are currently war-gaming for potential shortages that could disrupt travel as early as the late May bank holiday.

The crisis has already prompted some carriers to reduce flight schedules and warn passengers to book refundable tickets.
