Daring rescue in Iran

A complex search-and-rescue mission involving dozens of aircraft and hundreds of troops has successfully recovered a downed U.S. Air Force colonel from deep within Iran.

The airman had been missing since his F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down on Friday, surviving on the ground with only a pistol for protection.

While the White House celebrates the recovery as a 'miraculous' success, Iranian state media claims to have foiled parts of the operation by downing additional support aircraft.

The rescue occurred amidst a heavy firefight and represents a rare instance of two separate pilots being recovered from deep within enemy lines.
