ICE Acting Director to resign

ICE Acting Director to resign

Lyons, who was appointed in March 2025, told colleagues he is leaving 'on his own terms' after overseeing a massive infusion of cash that allowed ICE to double its force.

His tenure was marked by rapid-fire recruitment that an AP investigation found led to the hiring of some officers with questionable backgrounds and criminal records.

The agency has faced intense scrutiny over the deaths of protesters and the separation of families during 'Operation Metro Surge.' Lyons' departure comes as the administration continues to push for aggressive immigration enforcement while simultaneously discarding some of its more provocative publicity tactics.
