Rat poison found in baby food

Authorities in eastern Austria have arrested a 39-year-old man suspected of planting rat poison in jars of HiPP baby food as part of a blackmail attempt against major retailers.

The contaminated products were discovered on supermarket shelves in central Europe, prompting an immediate and widespread recall across several countries.

Police launched an intensive investigation after a customer in Eisenstadt reported finding suspicious substances in a purchased jar.

While no injuries have been reported, officials are urging parents to remain vigilant and check all baby food products for signs of tampering before use.

The suspect is currently in custody facing charges of attempted extortion and endangering public safety.
