ICE Acting Director to Resign
Under Lyons' leadership, ICE received a massive infusion of federal funding, which was used to double the agency's workforce and significantly ramp up arrests and deportations.
However, his tenure was also marked by controversy, including a record number of migrant deaths in custody and a public backlash over aggressive enforcement tactics in major cities.
The White House has not yet named a permanent successor, though several high-profile immigration hardliners are reportedly under consideration.
Lyons' departure comes as the administration readies its message for the midterm elections, with immigration remaining a central and highly divisive issue.
