Lufthansa Cancels 20,000 Flights

Aviation experts have warned of a looming summer travel crisis as fuel prices have more than doubled in some markets since the start of the conflict.

Lufthansa’s schedule adjustments will primarily target unprofitable routes across Europe in an effort to conserve fuel and manage margins.

Other major airlines, including Air Canada and Air Transat, have also begun trimming their flight schedules as the closure of the Strait of Hormuz chokes off refined product supplies.

The European Union is now considering emergency measures, including a fuel observatory, to monitor stocks and prevent hoarding among member states.
