Haiti Stampede Kills Dozens

A festive gathering at one of Haiti's most iconic landmarks turned into a disaster on Saturday as overcrowding and sudden rainfall triggered a fatal crush.

Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aime confirmed that many of the victims were young people who had traveled to the mountaintop fortress for a cultural event.

Emergency services struggled to reach the remote location, and authorities warn that the death toll is likely to rise as more information becomes available.

The government has offered its condolences and launched an investigation into the lack of safety measures at the site.
